Director's Perspective - Why open the PMI Door
I have spent over 25 years in the military leading people and operations, never associating my scope of responsibilities with the project management profession until my last several years of service. It doesn’t take a “project manager” to embrace and benefit from this group. PMI’s tenants focus on technical, leadership, and strategic skills that can be regulated for your purpose, across virtually every profession. If you are a student who is not quite sure whether you are on the right path, active duty or transitioning military trying to orient yourself to civilian markets, an employee who is unfulfilled in your current role, or an active practitioner in project management who wants to enhance your qualifications or pay your experience forward, we encourage you to explore the myriad of ways that PMI can boost your value. Take that step toward us.
Our PMI Chapter thrives here on the Emerald Coast of Florida and Alabama and is here to assist you in meeting your professional goals. Questions? Email me at [email protected].
Become a Mentor
We need experienced volunteers to provide one-on-one guidance to our members when assistance is requested. Being a mentor is a deeply rewarding experience to have helped someone grow by listening to their career goals, assessing their status, and relating your real-world experience to help them. Your mentoring engagements are completely up to you and the assigned mentee, normally involving a combination of emails, texting, phone conversations, and the use of virtual software to establish some “face-to-face” time. We offer tools to assist in the pairing relationship or you can create and share your own.
The thank-you following your mentor pairing is well worth your time, but you also earn PDUs. Most importantly, you truly add value helping one of our members reach their goals.
If you’d like more information about our mentoring program, please email [email protected], or contact any board member on our website. You can also log onto vrms.pmi.org and search for “PMI Emerald Coast Chapter” then read about our “Become a Mentor” volunteer opportunity.
